Here are some resources to support you in learning Qafaraf! It’s definitely a short list to start, so if you know of any others you’d like added to the list, please don’t hesitate to comment or email me!
- Afar Language Guide (for French Speakers): if you know French, this is one of the most complete, easy-to-use language guides I’ve been able to find online. It includes pronuciation, vocabulary, and some basic grammar/usage. It was developed to promote Afar language and culture in Djibouti.
- Generative Grammar of Afar: a quite technical/jargon-y grammar guide for Afar, making it rather clunky to use as a language-learning tool, but it does have a depth of information for someone willing to pick it apart
- Afar Camel Folk Literature: an academic article dissecting Afar folk literature featuring camels, with quite a few translations between Afar passages and their English equivalents. Definitely not meant for language-learning, but having so many translations makes it a useful tool for intermediate learners.
- Kataway Kataway: a Youtube channel with a good number of children’s videos in Afar, at a pace which makes them a useful tool for language-learners of any age.
